The core principles behind our way of cultivating the land follow an ethical vision aimed at leaving future generations with a healthier environment than the one we inherited. We start from soil regeneration as a method to restore and rebuild natural fertility, applying field composting techniques with bio-fertilisers, green manure crops, minimal or “no-dig” cultivation, crop rotation and diversification, together with integrated animal farming (in our case roosters and hens). These methods help increase organic matter in the soil and create natural border environments that actively support biodiversity. Only through the combination of these good practices is it possible to obtain living products with excellent nutraceutical properties and distinctive flavours.
The foundations of our farm are rooted in permaculture design principles inspired by the studies of Bill Mollison. Every agricultural system should be based on ethical values that promote the preservation rather than the exploitation of the land. Every human activity, to be considered truly sustainable, should aim not only to preserve the balance of natural elements such as water, light and wind, but also to protect biodiversity. We like to think of the 12 principles of permaculture as the guiding thread behind our choices.
